Help Charging issues

In the car, when I'm using navigation, the phone stops charging. I've found that if I turn the screen off, after a while, it starts charging again.

Is it heat? This the correct behavior? Kind of sucks if the phone dies mid-journey. Fortunately, I noticed yesterday...

It might be your car charger. If I'm trying to use my phone at all in the car while it's on my (cheap) charger, the battery drains and eventually only the fact that it's attached to the charger keeps it going. However, if I turn the phone off, it does charge.

I haven't yet bought a more high-quality charger, but I'm thinking it would make a difference.

u need charger that has 1 amp out put which is 1000 millamps u still might have some heating problems but u can do what I did was take bat cover off and drill about six holes that are 1\8 the apart I used about an 1\32 bit works good for me good luck

It's my car's built in USB port... I'll try a "real" charger. Also, do you have a picture of your holes? I use a case as well, so I'd have to drill through the case too... But I'd like to see what you've done.

Thanks!

Through experimentation I've found that if the battery goes over 110F the phone stops charging, and resumes once back to 100F (3 hour trip with my wife repeatedly holding the phone over the air conditioning vent). The ZTE battery seems to regularly hover around 100F anyways, and the combination of charging heat and hot cpu puts it over the edge.

I'm experimenting with a 3rd party battery to see if it helps at all. Expect to see a thread with a review in the coming days with results. It's at least staying around 90F for now.
