Charging problem after Kit Kat upgrade

My N7 won't charge to full even if I leave it on charger overnight, it usually stopped at around 90%.

Anyone has the same problem?

Not me, mine still charges properly.

Don't rule out the coincidence factor - it's more likely IMO that you have developed a charging problem unrelated to the update. It's not uncommon for the Nexus 7's charging to start to behave badly due to bad (loose) USB connections and/or bad cables.

Try a different cable if you have one, or a completely different charger. Even a slow charger will work as long as the N7 isn't in use at the same time and will definitely reach 100% overnight.

Mine won't charge at all now - left it for 3 days on the original charger and 20 minutes on my original HTC One X charger and can't even get the green light to come on :(

Might have to send it back

My Nexus 7 has worked perfectly since I purchased it in March but all the sudden (and I do mean suddenly!) the device is not charging (installed KitKat 2 days ago). Have tried lots of advice from various forums, including google forum, and all I have managed to do is take it down to 15% charged. I just tried a factory reset and didn't get that to work correctly. The thought of having to take my laptop around again to check up on facebook, email, read my books depresses the heck out of me. I've used the original wall charger and usb cord that came with the device (supposedly worked magic for some). I've plugged in the charger, then the usb to my device. Plugged in the usb to my device, then into the wall charger. Saw a groupon to buy nexus 7 at a greatly reduced price. But why? Just so that I can have the same problem in 6 months? I was all set to get my mother one, but guess I'll have to acquiesce to the iPad members of the family and pay a bunch more.

No problems here. Bought during initial release. Can you charge while it's powered off? See if just a software issue, as it were.

It's running again!!!

Had to hold the power button in for about 15 seconds before it started. Could have sworn there were charging lights on this thing

I haven't had any issues with 4.4 but I have had charging and power issues before. I find using the OEM charger and literally holding the power button in for two minutes will usually bring it back to life. After 30 seconds or so it should kick in but 30 seconds is longer than you think when you're waiting for something.

Update!

I think there may be a problem somewhere, I tried two different chargers, it turned out that 2 out of 3 times it won't charge to full even left on charger overnight, last night I switched it off but when I checked it in the morning it's only 46% charged.

Weird thing is that if I charge it and use it at the same time (eg watching Youtube), it will charge to full without problem.

My N7 was flawless since I bought it a year ago, can't believe it's coincidental.

OK I think I found the solution, if I leave the Wifi on all the time it will charge to full without problem.

So it's definitely not my N7's fault, there must be a bug in the Kitkat distribution.

Interesting. That would also explain why your problem isn't seen by most users (including me) who probably have wifi more or less permanently enabled on the Nexus 7.

I have the WiFi off most of the time and only turn it on for the occasional bits of browsing or copying files from my NAS. I find all three (!!!) of my N7s running Kitkat charge just fine.

I wonder if you have a rogue app that doesn't like the wireless being off and responds by keeping the tablet awake.

The problem is that even if I turn it off (I mean completely off, not just standby) and put it on the wall charger overnight it also won't charge.

You might find it a bit weird but actually it's the only reliable way I can have my N7 fully charged. If I keep the wireless on it will charge normally from any source (USB, N7 charger, smartphone charger, power bank portable battery...)

Charging test with Wi-fi OFF is sucessful, I will test charging the N7 with Power OFF tonight to see if they have done some tweakings on the new version.

i had this problem with mine after the 4.3 update (among other strange bugs). you'd think google would address bugs in their native devices.
