Help Charging question... does it automatically stop charging?

So last night I was at 96% waiting for it to reach 100% so that I can take off the charger, but I knocked out and well... woke up this morning to the Alarm and saw that the battery icon no longer had the bolt, meaning that it wasn't charging anymore.

I was reading up on Li-Ion batteries and that it's not a good idea to overcharge these type of batteries because it only does more harm than good.

So with that said, will my battery be alright? I'm assuming the phone automatically stops charging once it hits a certain voltage? And this prevents the battery from being overcharged.

Am i correct in my assumptions?

Some manufacturers programme the phone to stop charging at 100 like moto but im not sure if this is the case with samsung. Your battery should be ok just dont overcharge it all the time

It will stop charging at 100%. The battery then starts to very slowly drain but once it gets to about 97% it will start charging again.

This is why sometimes if you unplug your phone you will see your phone at 98 or 97% instead of 100%.

Li-ion batteries should not be discharged, so most of today's manufacturers put controllers that sometimes make the batteries stop charging at 99% or sometimes even at 95%. I read about Depth of Discharge on batteryuniversity.com and it makes sense, because this way you extended your battery's life.

These manufactures also put controllers that will shut phone off when battery is at 15%-ish charge, so that the battery never really "drains" all the way.

Yes true to both the above. However that 99% and 15% will register on the phone as 100% and 14 respectively. The phone takes the usable battery and then reports on that

Is the same true for car chargers? Every car charger I've bought has a warning tag on it saying it should be unplugged after charging fully.
