Charging speed capacity?

Does anyone know the specifications for how much power the Maxx will accept? I know I can tell a noticeable difference between using a heavy gauge cable and the 2.1 amp side of my double cigarette lighter charger for my car with my phone. The other side is 1 amp and I use an iPod cord for my iPod (not a fruit company fanboy, it was free). Not sure if it's the cable or charger setting that makes the biggest difference.

On AC, it seems to be the same way depending on charger and cable. A friend of mine got a 2+ amp charger for her Note 2 for this very reason. I do know the phones are very different though.

How much power will it accept? I know smartphones have inner regulators to protect against overcharging damage, which makes it unnecessary to get a charger that provides more power than it will accept.

You are correct in that the phone has the regulator built in.
Don't confuse supply amps with output amps.
Some chargers [cheap ones] are weak. Supplying .5 or .75 amp output
The weak ones will work, but takes a lot longer to charge.
Some would say the slower the charge the better it is on the phone in that it does not heat the phone up as much.
One amp should be sufficient.
I would careful with the 2 amp charger, and would not go over that.

FWIW, the stock AC input USB charger that came with my Maxx has a rated output of 750ma. It does take a couple of hours or so to go from 10% to 100%. The phone & the charger do get warm. Using a PC USB connection is quite a bit slower. IIRC, PC USB has a max of 500ma.
