Charging the Prime

So, I finally got the Prime I won from a contest. I noticed that the Prime doesn't charge when I plug it into a cigarette lighter, or more importantly, the PowerBag messenger bag that I won with the tab.

It seems only AC power will charge it. Any tips?

Transformer uses direct current for charging. The problem i believe is that if you look at stock charger there is range for output is 5V at 2A or 15V at 1.2A Amps are the problem. USB ports don't have more than 0.5A output. That's why transformer doesn't charge from USB connection to the PC either. Not really great design in this way...

That does suck. I wonder if I turn off the Prime when trying to charge via USB on my bag or cigarette lighter.

But it does work via USB to computer! When I plug it into my iMac, it registers it is charging. It does it very slowly, but it does work.

It is quite doubtful that the Prime would charge from a cigarette lighter, but it will charge from a USB. But like most modern phones/devices it will only drip feed a charge to the device and not actually fully charge the unit.

It really needs the 15V charging that you get from the wall adapter. In a car, the best method at the moment is to use an inverter to get 110VAC and then plug in the ASUS wall adapter.

I tried to plug it into my USB port on laptop as well as to some dedicated USB chargers i have here but it doesn't charge in anything but original Asus wall charger

That's because it needs 15V to charge. USB is 5V. You were correct in noting that the ASUS adapter puts out 15V, but were incorrect in saying that the high amperage is what the Prime needs.
