when I try charging my tablet through my laptop, it shows an x on the battery icon. do you have to charge the tablet through the outlet?

Help charging through usb errorr

The laptop can't provide enough amperage for proper charging ( ... AND the tablet won't identify it as Samsung charger
). So the tablet will get only trickle charging.Use the charger which came with your tablet

Even if there is an X, it is still 'charging'. But very slowly (provided you are not using the tablet). Probably around 500mA (which is the most a USB connection can offer). But if using the tablet, it will drain and not charge. I can leave my Note 10.1 connected and not in use and it will charge even with the X on it. But again, very slowly and connected to my desktop PC.
