how long do you have to charge your galaxy note battery the first time you use it
 
Until it's fully charged. That varies, since the battery could have been sitting on the shelf for a few days or a few months. (And it discharges just a little even when it's not in the phone.) The phone will tell you when it's charged. (You can turn the phone on once the charger is connected - the phone will be running off the charger as far as the battery is concerned.)
