Charging woes

Hello, my Galaxy Tab 2 7 is having trouble charging.

sometimes when I connect the USB cord to a computer, I get the USB connection for transferring files, but the battery is not getting charged. when this happens there is a red circle with a line through it on the battery icon.

i get varying results with 3rd party charge cubes and wires.

does the red circle with a line through it indicate there is a connection but the power supply isn't delivering enough amperage to charge the battery? if so, shouldn't the USB port on a computer (and most wall-socket USB chargers) have enough juice?

i have three of these devices all experiencing similar issues charging.

are others experiencing anything like this?

thanks

When you charge your tablet using the wall outlet do you get the same red circle? If not its just that the the usb isn't able to put out the juice needed to charge the tablet through the computer usb.

No. The OEM charger has an output of 5V@2A. A powered USB 2.0 port on a PC can only output 500ma, this is not sufficient to properly charge the Tab especially if it's turned on. A USB 3.0 port can supply 900ma but this may still not be enough. Some USB ports are data-only and can't supply enough current to charge anything, even a phone.
As for wall chargers, these will also vary in rated output. Older ones may be as low as 500ma, newer "high output" chargers intended for use with current smartphones are typically rated 1A. You need to use one that is intended for use with tablets and has an output at least equal to the 2A of the OEM charger.
