Cheap charger = battery damage?

We have a cheap charger that someone bought from a gas station in the lab that I work in. Most of us have android phones that use micro usb, so it works out pretty well. I was wondering if you guys think a cheap micro usb charger can potentially damage the phones battery. The charger is hooked up to a computer via usb so I'd assume that regardless of the cheap build quality of the charger, the power supply on the computer provides clean power. Am I wrong?

no. the handset controls the voltage/current, etc.. all the cable does it supply power. ok if you have a fancy charger with a light on it then the charger supplies that power..still the handset/device in question does not care if you picked up the charger from best buy or racetrack or QT.. :D
