Help Checkboxes in email inbox list

Ok, I realize this is trivial in the scheme of things, but pre-ICS there was an email setting that allowed one to show or hide those checkboxes that appear on the left side of the inbox list in email. I find them distracting and unneccesary (most of the time) but so far I am not able to figure out how to lose them in ICS. Does anyone know if it is still possible to toggle them on/off and, if so, can you tell me how?

Open Gmail > Menu Button > Settings > General Settings > Hide Checkboxes which oddly enough has to be checked in a check box, go figure.:D

Hmmm - what about if you don't use Gmail as your primary email account? I access work email via an Enterprise version of Outlook (I guess it's an Exchange server) and my personal email via Comcast. The way you just descriebd is exactly how I used to be able to do it, but after ICS, the only options I get in Settings-->General are "Auto Advance", "Ask to Show Pictures", "Message Preview", and "Email list gestures"....

Anyone come across this? Maybe it's a subtle way to try to push people to Gmail.....
