Chinese Android Cleanup

Hi I have a basic android phone that came form China, its all in English and everything is sweet, but I have two issues on the phone

* I did a factory reset but it still didn't get rid of a few Chinese apps that are installed, like there is a Chinese weather app that shows the weather in Chinese under the clock on the main screen, i want to uninstall it but cannot (guess I have to be root) anyway around this? I guess there wont be instructions on how to root for a phone that isn't branded? I just have about 5 running apps all chinese that are consuming a lot of my ram

* on android marketplace I have a feeling I am accessing a Chinese version of the marketplace, as I can't find angry birds and when I search for certain software it says for example 117 results but only shows me 1? is there a way to check or settings somewhere?

You need to root to uninstall system apps so you have that right.
I doubt you are getting the chinese market, the market is filtering what isn't supported by your phone, my market does the same thing, depending on what rom I run I may get to see 7 of the 200 apps it finds or I may see all of them

That could make sense, so even if my phone meets the minimum hardware specs for a particular game it may not be available if the developer has not listed my particular device as being compatible? is that correct. the phone I have is an HTC knockoff I wonder if I could set somewhere in the phone to make marketplace think its an HTC.

You would need to be rooted to change the build.prop and edit the market fingerprint but that may not work. There is more that goes into what shows in the market and how apps are displayed.

Think I know what the issue might be, had a look at the version of market installed and its 1.87, sounds like the current version is 3.1 so perhaps its so odl it can't see all the apps.

tried to manually install a newer version from an APK but it wouldn't do it, perhaps I have to be rooted first?

On another note I tried gingerbreak and superoneclick which wouldn't work on this phone. anyone got another suggestion to try?

I think you are going to need to find out the OEM and some other specs to figure out how to root it or if you can
