Choosing a new tablet

Hello all, I need some direction choosing a new tablet. I've heard that the off-brand models from the East can save me a bunch of money. I'm looking for something that will perform well, with a full size USB port and SD card slot. I'd like something that either comes already rooted or is easy enough to mod. I plan to watch video on it frequently. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks.

Walmart. At least if you buy a cheapo from them, there should be no problem in returning it. As for something that's easy to root or mod, can't really recommend anything as they're changing all the time. If it's something easy to root and can't really go wrong, definitely a Google Nexus tablet, which is not off-brand of course and might cost more.

Little known fact ... many of the off-brand tabled are rooted out of the box. The problem is there's just no way to tell unless you happen to be lucky enough to find someone who already owns one and is willing to check. The second problem is there's virtually zero support from the manufacturers, assuming you can identify them and find a contact who actually responds to questions. Finally, because the cheap tablets are a mish-mash of components and generally not kept very long, there's never been much development community interest. So, if it's not rooted, and one of the generic root methods don't work, you're pretty much stuck. And, trying to root it in the first place might make it un-returnable.

Instead, you might look for refurbished brand name tablets. They might cost a few dollars more, but you won't be left twisting in the wind with your first problem.

Yeah, cheap isn't always good.

My mother bought me a tablet for my birthday thinking it would be good for me. Came with a keyboard/case combo.

Here are some limited specs on it..

Visual Land Prestige 10" tablet

10 inch screen
1gb RAM
1.2ghz dual core processor
16gb internal storage

And user experience is not much different. The screen color is washed out, programs lag if more then one are running, speaker is so low it's almost non-existent, and battery life is crap (about 3 hours of continuous average use).

Actually, I don't think this tablet is even fit to give away, but I did find its one good use.... It's a good paperweight..

And I have heard the same complaints over some of their other tabs.

Keep this in mind if anyone suggests any of visual lands other tablets.

We've quite a few posts in the past about Visual Land tablets, and most seemed to be about quality issues. And they are very definitely cheapo.

Yeah, my mother bought me that one. No way I would spend that kind of money on something so crappy. I'm more of an Asus, Nvidia Shield, or Acer kind of guy.
