Choosing a Verizon Droid - Opinions Requested

Hello all! I'm up for an upgrade on the 18th of November and am looking for some help/opinions. I can't wait to get rid of my Thunderbolt, the stupid piece of crap. I've done a fair bit of research, but I'm hoping some of you have hands on experience or a little more knowledge than me.

I'm not uneducated about phones, so I'm looking for honest opinions (and more detail is better). I've been leaning toward the SGSIII, moto razor maxx HD, or the moto razor M. Are there others I should be considering? I'll have this phone until my next upgrade in 22 months, so I want to make sure I'm not too behind the technology when I actually purchase the phone.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but I didn't see a better place than the Verizon forum. I couldn't find any other postings with this information, but if there is one, just point me in the right direction please! :o

If you need a phone that is out now, you can't go wrong with the GS3. Sold really well, so has lots of support. And being the same across all the carriers, there are lots of options for docks and cases and skins available. I have one, and I don't even worry about it being outdated before my contract is up, it's a pretty sweet peice of kit! Nothing wrong with the RAZR MAXX HD either, but Moto + Verizon = locked down like Fort Knox. GS3 is a lot easier to hack and mod if that's your thing. And being able to hack and mod is a way of keeping it more up to date than Verizon will do sometimes!

It's all about the DROID DNA :)

^biased ;)

Actually, a lot of the review sites have said the DNA is the best phone on Verizon. Being an HTC phone, it would be the phone with the easiest learning curve for you as well.

You just have to ask yourself what is most important to you. the MAXX HD has excellent battery life, The S3 is the number one selling smartphone in the world, and the RAZR M is a great deal, with fantastic specs, in a smaller package. The DNA (which releases Wed.) has a 1080P screen (first in the US), and top notch hardware, and the Note 2 (next week) is the biggest phone you can buy, and has some neat features (split screen mode, two apps at same time), and the S-Pen, along with a battery almost as big as the MAXX. I would recommend that you come up with a list of what bothers you about the Thunderbolt, and what you think is most important to you, and then maybe we can point you in the right direction :)

I'll admit that I'm very tempted to get the DNA but the only thing holding me back is that it doesn't have a removable battery.

I had a Thunderbolt and didn't mind it other than the horrible battery life. I just got in the habit of carrying a spare which isn't a big deal.

I have a Rezound now and overall am pretty happy with it. I keep two spare batteries handy when I travel. It has saved me on several occasions.

Battery life is great. Really. If I didn't know better I would say it was 2500+.

Point taken, but it still makes me a little uneasy. I also wonder about the long-term viability of the battery. I'd hate to have to have ship my phone off just to replace the battery.

I'll admit, very, very tempting. Very! :D

I understand. Especially for those folks who are disciplined enough to keep phones for the whole two year contract. :p. (Not me!)

I love the RAZR HD MAXX - incredible battery life. I'm a power user and have yet to kill the battery. I also like the build quality of the RHM over the SGIII. I found the SGIII to look and feel very plastic-y.

If you don't need wicked battery life the the RAZR M is a great deal for the money.

the downside to the DNA for me is the SD card....... it wont take long to fill that storage space up and then youre off to the cloud

which is what theyre hoping for...... notice new phones starting to migrate that way..... no SD

"use the cloud"...... sounds great.... 4G speed to the cloud no problem....... wait.... you just screwed me out of unlimited so I cant use the cloud without paying $1000 a month

It depends on what is important to you. Battery life? Great screen? Removable battery? Expandable memory?

The three I would closely look at is the Samsung Galaxy S3, Motorola Droid Razr HD Maxx and HTC Droid DNA.

If you could give us more detail, we could give you more to think about in choosing your next device.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. On every phone I've had, the batteries have lasted well into 2 years.
