Grunge

Lurker
Hi,

Google Chrome is redirecting me to spam sites, sites like www.gotfreebies.org

I had chrome installed a few months ago and it was happening, I have since done a factory reset and used Dolphin for a few weeks with no problems, Then this morning I decided to try Chrome again and it's redirecting me again.

I have a

Samsung Galaxy s2 ( GT-19100 )
Stock Android 4.0.3

Any ideas? I can only assume its a virus, I tried AVG and norton and neither found anything.

Changing browser setting is a AirPush "feature".

Look in your browser's settings and set the hijacked browser home page back to a site like Google.

The app which had created that mess might be still on your phone ... recently installed or updated.
To find that culprit app install an AirPush detector like
Lookout Ad Network Detector

Thanks Harry.

TrustGo Lookout ad detector found nothing.

Lookout Ad Network Detector, found nothing that can modify the browser and nothing else dodgy popped up with the other aps.

I may factory reset again, then install chrome and 1 app a day until the problem pops up and identify it that way.

I should add, it doesnt change my home page or bookmarks. It just pops up a new page, chromes pop up blocker is enabled.

Might be something (annoying, but harmless) like this Mobgifts popups in this xda-developers thread ...

[Q] mobgifts.org (Possible browser hijack) - xda-developers

Thats the thing, Thanks. but a different site this time, I've certainly seen Mobgifts pop up.

Im not sure its as clear cut as they are making it out to be though as I had the pop up on the 1st boot of chome after a factory reset, the only site that was up was one that doesn't have advertising.
