Chrome To Phone: Anybody Using it?

Awesome find man! How does the phone number thing work though ? Like, do you have to copy and paste the phone number to make it show up on the evo or does the phone number have to be in a link form to work ?

You hightlight the phone number and then send it to the phone. Open the notification panel on the phone and tap on the number. It will load it in the dialer.

Note that it doesn't work with numbers formatted with periods such as 888.555.1212. It just sends it to the phone as clipboard text.

888-555-1212 or (888) 555-1212 do work.

Welp, I just installed it. Hope the extra running service doesn't sap my battery too badly.

It works really well. Pushing links is very convenient. Not having to look up a location twice is great, and (for me) the best feature: Pushing a phone number. Look up some business, get their number, push it to the phone and dial.

As far as I can tell, it doesn't "add" a new service. It appears to use the Google Messaging Service under the Google Services Framework (com.google.process.gapps) which is the same thing that every other Google Android app uses.

Tried Chrome to Phone yesterday...don't know how often I'll actually use it but really cool :p

I can't seem to get it to work. I installed the FF extension, the app on my EVO, it went through the sign-up process...I am signed in on both ends. When I click the phone in the browser it tells me it sent the link to my phone...but no link. Not any errors, just not getting anything. Suggestions?

Have you try disconnecting and reconnecting on the phone and in FF? I've tried both the Chrome and FF version and both were able to send to my phone. Did you upgrade to Froyo yet? It only works with 2.2 and above.

Yes, I am on Froyo. I uninstalled and re-installed the app. The links came to the phone about 10 minutes later. Not instant like everyone else is saying, but I will play around and see what happens. Thanks.

Are you by chance using a task killer? It could be turning off the required service and then when it starts up again, the messages come through.

I'm not using any task killers and whatever I send comes right through.

Love Chrome to phone. I have used it multiple times when I am searching for apk files on my PC and then send that link to my phone and download the file. Makes it really easy.

Great for maps and the other features that have been mentioned. This is one of my favorite new features.

Im going to download it and give it a shot! I just upgraded to a rooted version of 2.2 yesterday & im anxious to take advantage of it!

Hmm, I can't find the extension to download to my computer. And the above links don't work for me? Is the extension simply called "Chrome to phone"? If it is, it doesn't show up for me :(

NM, I got it to work. It sounds like a neat idea, but right now I don't have any uses for it.

Which browser are you looking for it for? For Firefox it's called "Send to Phone".

I'm using Chrome and it doesn't seem to be available. The directions from the app direct you to the extensions page for Chrome and tell you to search "Chrome to Phone", which doesn't return anything related.

Try this for the computer extension:

I just tried this link, and it worked:
chrometophone-android.apk - chrometophone - Chrome to Phone Extension (Android App) v1.7 Pre-release [Old link] - Project Hosting on Google Code

There's another app that does the reverse and send links from Phone to Chrome, Android2Cloud.

Android2cloud Opens URLs from Your Phone in Chrome

I got it to work once awesome app, too bad their servers crashed and burned. I just got an email from a Paddy Foran the developer saying that his server went out blah blah blah. I hope he or she gets it straightened out soon. If I see that it works great and runs stable Id be first in line to donate to the cause. The email also gives us the option to use and set up our own servers to host the app client.
