City ID

Drogo46

Newbie
New user of Android here. I have the Motorola Atrix 2 on At&T.

Going through trying to get rid of any bloatwear I notice as an app called "city ID ".

What exactly is this? Uninstall or keep?

I believe its a service that, using the area code of a call it shows you the city the call is coming from. I think (at least on my phone) you have to pay for it. Its up to you if you want it or not

I'm not 100% sure if this is right.

The app comes with a free trial (two week on my Bionic). After that it's $1.99 per month. All it does is identify the city of incoming calls, and add the city information to your call logs for both incoming and outgoing calls.

Not sure about the atrix 2 but on my bionic it lets me uninstall it after the trial was over.

You removed City ID from the Bionic, without root?

Yes. I got a message saying my trial was over and it gave me an option to uninstall. Try it. Click on the app from your app drawer. Decline the service and it'll ask you if you want to remove city id.

You might have to click subscription status and decline the service from there.

Thanks. I never imagined that I could remove bloatware without rooting. But... it appears that this merely hides the app from the app drawer somehow.

Even after a roboot, City ID still appears in my installed apps list (though the name of the app is grayed), saying it takes up 512K, and CityID.apk is still in my /system/app folder.

The feeling was good while it lasted though. :)
