Classroom points counter

Tzapporah

Lurker
In my classroom this year, I plan to have an individual point system for my students as a behavior and work incentive. For example, every on time and complete homework assignment is 5 points, answering a question right is 1, helping a fellow student is 2, donating classroom materials (pens, pencils, graph/engineering paper) is a certain amount. Conversely, tardiness, failing to follow procedures/instructions, especially for a lab, sleeping, disrupting class, and unauthorized cell phone use would all lose points.

Plus, there'll be a "shop" where students can buy things with their accumulated points, such as a pencil/pen/paper, bathroom passes, and test retake opportunities (different prices for before it was graded and after).

The closest app I've so far found is "Oh Behave!", which has the classroom and interface functionality I'm looking for, but has no edit ability on the point values added or subtracted nor the reasons for the changes. If I could get something with that expanded capability, I'd be a very happy teacher.

I'd be even happier if the app could both add/delete a student without requiring a data purge, but I can cope without it, and would even be fine if the additional categories and point values were entered via dropbox like the rosters are.

I'd be ecstatic if the app also logged the day of the deductions/additions.

Hopefully something can come out of this. I think many teachers and/or camp leaders would like to take advantage of this.

Thank you,
A very hopeful physics teacher

Have you had anyone contact you about this yet? If not please feel free to send me a message.

No one has, although I did find an app through ideausa's app store that was just about perfect. Its only major drawbacks are that one needs to manually create a specific Lesson for each day, and since it is mostly geared towards elementary, there's no easier functionality of multiple sections of a class. You have to manually add and create each lesson for each section of each class.

The app is called eclass, BTW.

Is the drawback significant enough that you would like to pursue something else or are you planning to try it out for a while?

If I don't find something better before about a week, maybe two into school (2 1/2-3 1/12 weeks from now), then I will use eclass this year. I'll look again for next year. It's definitely a timeframe thing for me.

I've been working on a side project like this. Just got this started. Working on it pro bono as I'm doing this to gain more experience in Android. Hathe, let me know if you want to join in or if I can help.
