Cleaning apps

If you are doing that then you want an app that can scan apps when you install or update them rather than just manually. I'm not sure whether MalwareBytes will do that without enabling its full real-time protection. I do know that Avast! lets you scan on install only.

But remember that any security app can only detect things that are in its database. So having one of these is not a replacement for being careful about what you install, especially if you download from all over the place. Your vigilance is a better protection than any app.

I think I am missing something my Samsung supplied Smart manager is by Mcfee is that this Cheetah Mobile that you are all talking about?

Samsung certainly used to include a 'neutered' version of Cheetah Mobile software... if they've stopped (or didn't put it on your device) this is certainly a good thing

It seems that the Smart Manager included both McAfee and Cheetah Mobile elements. See this article from when it was first introduced.

The Cheetah Mobile bit got all of the attention, since to anyone knowledgeable about Android they were on the "avoid" list. I've personally never been impressed by McAfee's PC software (though it's been a few years since I've encountered it), but they are a legitimate company whose worst crime is paying Dell et al to include a trial version of their software on their PCs (which will then nag for payment after a few weeks and for many PC owners removing it will stretch their technical abilities).
