Clear memory each time?

At one point, before putting my SGSII on standby, I would exit any programs from Task Mgr. Then I noticed the RAM button. Now I use the RAM button regularly, instead.
1) I clicked the RAM button:
"Clear inactive and background processes."
"Completed and ongoing application functions will be removed from RAM."
"Clearing RAM will end some applications. Save data before you clear RAM."
2) I clicked the "Clear Memory" button.
3) A pop-up says something like around TWENTY programs had been cleared from RAM, not just the two or three listed next to the exit buttons.
I had been creating and editing docs before performing these actions.
Is there any harm in this? Seems it may enhance either security, battery life, or both.

Well it just empties the cache, and unlike Task Killer apps, it does not kill running services. For example, Facebook has a constant running background service. Using that button does not affect that background service. It will however clear the cache of the last tabs you opened on Dolphin that you forgot to close, so when you open Dolphin Browser HD, it will start from scratch.

While this may be useful when you plan on doing something rather heavy and you don't want the phone to spend time loading because its deciding which cached apps to delete, I find this a pointless exercise since the phone should to this automatically anyway.

Interesting. I always wondered what this would do.

So, it doesn't wipe the RAM at all?

Could you list some other stuff that it will clean?

Basically it will clean out anything that Android does not consider a running process. I don't think it will have any problem since its the killing of running processes that makes a problem, not the cache of recently used apps AFAIK.
