Clearing OTA Update notification?

Shpook

Lurker
Hello everyone. Not sure if this is a phone specific problem, or general problem. If this belongs in the Wildfire S forum, then I apologize to the mods for the extra work. :D

My wife owns a MetroPCS HTC Wildfire S. It's rooted, on a stock rom, with CWM installed. Today she got a system update notification, and I don't want her to install it. Which isn't easily an option anyways, as CWM is being used for recovery.

So, I'm clueless as to how to clear the notification. I came across a couple suggestions to just let it try and run, it fails, and the notification disappears. But to no avail; it returned within 5 minutes.

Any advice? The icon "really annoys the s***" out of her.

Since your phone is rooted, you could try freezing software updates with Titanium Backup. Do not remove it, just freeze it and it should stop the notifications.

To expand on what lunatic said, it'll be called "Updater" for HTC devices. The app below it will be called something like "Updater script", you can freeze that, too, if you want. But Updater is enough. That'll also prevent you from trying to manually update it, as the app is frozen.

Thanks, it seems that did the trick.

I only found the "Updater" app. But after some further research, there were a few more I froze, and so far, no notification.

I froze six apps in total:

com.htc.demoflopackageinstaller
HTC Checkin Service
My Downloads Provider
ResetNotify 2.3.4
Updater
Upgrade Setup

Again, thanks for the help!

I’m not rooted but I rejected the Gingerbread update by:

1. Choose More Info in its prompt.
2. Immediately yank the battery and wait a bit.
3. Reinsert battery and restart, maybe twice.

As for why I did that, you’d need an Optimus S to understand.
