Clearing recent apps menu

I'm having some trouble clearing the recent apps menu on the home screen. It's on the bottom left and has two windows, it shows everywhere you have been. I just need to know how to clear it.

Can you not individually swipe them away, left or right? Just try swiping them and see if they clear out.
 
No, i have tried swiping as this is how you clear my tablets list. I have a Galaxy Tab, but it doesnt seem to do the trick for this one. Or holding it to pop up another menu with delete in it.
