How do I clear my search history in the Market, where I do app searches? I have a mile long list and would like to clear it out.
Thanks!!

Thanks!!

You can do it on a rooted phone by clearing the cache.Actually, I read a post a few months back that said it was possible to clear the Marketplace search's.
Although it required Root access and removing a certain file, sadly I cannot remember the name of the file.
Maybe that will spur the thoughts of others who may remember..?
Edit: It was a file that the phone recreates by itself to start the new search list
You don't have to be root to clear cache, and clearing cache won't delete your market search history, rather, if you are root, you can delete the 'suggestions.db' database in:You can do it on a rooted phone by clearing the cache.
Not to be arguing, but are you sure? When I clear with CacheMate, it clears my market search history also. You don't have to be root to clear cache, and clearing cache won't delete your market search history, rather, if you are root, you can delete the 'suggestions.db' database in:
/data/data/com.android.vending/databases/
Which contains your history. After a reboot, the database will be rebuilt, with an empty suggestions (history) list.
I'm 100% positive. Don't know what CacheMate is/does, but I can assure you the 'suggesstions' database is what holds search history. Perhaps CacheMate deletes this as well, don't know, but it's not technically cache, but rather, data stored in a sqlite table, coincidentally named 'suggestions'.Not to be arguing, but are you sure? Yes, got root. Thanks for the info, much appreciated.I'm 100% positive. Don't know what CacheMate is/does, but I can assure you the 'suggesstions' database is what holds search history. Don't believe me? Got root? Delete the referenced database and see what happens
Or, if you're feeling frisky, adb shell to the phone, enter into the sqlite3 console and view your history directly from the database by executing the SQL command:
select * from suggestions;
You'll see it all there.
A very reasonable post, one that could have been solved if you did a simple search of the forums
But no problem. It actually can't be done. There is no way to do it. Yes, it is annoying. Hopefully with the much anticipated 2.1 update in the future, we will have that option.
Cheers!
It turns out that we're both right. I found the file you pointed to, and it contained exactly what you said I'd find. I also have a root app called CacheMate, which has a settings option to clear market history. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and useful info.I'm 100% positive. does the history of searches use your memory?
So you figured out a reboot was required .
No sarcasm involved. Killing / restarting the applicable service, in the end, would indeed accomplish the same thing, as the service would get restarted, resulting in the db rebuild with empty content.Actually, I just killed the Market with AutoKiller and it worked. I figured I would try the reboot.
Thanks for the sarcasm though...
haha.

How do I get to that? My phone is rooted but I'm not sure how to look into the different files on the phone.
I went to the file explorer and went to the data folder. It says it's empty though.
And does the free cachemate delete marketplace history? I don't think it does.
I'm still 1.5 stock and have an app called MarketHistoryEraser. It works great. TC
Hey Kelmar, how ya doing? Nope, still stock going on 9 months now. Both our Hero's run great. I listened to you and stayed where I was. Remember saying, if you're happy and you never know what can or worms you may open. Anyway I saw Kick Ass a couple of weeks ago and that little girl is amazing. Now I know why you use her avatar. May upgrade in December, Evo Epic who knows. Been reading a lot on those forums. Let me know what you do. TCStill no update or rooting for you yet?
