Clippers disrespecting Lakers?

MoodyBlues

Compassion is cool!
Doc Rivers thought it would be a good idea to cover up the Lakers shrine at Staples Center--you know, those 16 championship banners, all those retired jerseys of basketball legends--with pictures of Clippers players. Naturally, some people immediately reacted with outrage, saying that it was disrespectful to the Lakers. But is it?

I BLEED purple and gold. Lifelong Lakers fan here, not some bandwagon fan who's only around for the good times.

And with that said...I don't think it's AT ALL disrespectful! After all, the two teams both call Staples Center home. Why should the Clippers, and their fans, see Lakers stuff hanging from the rafters? I don't think they should.

Didn't Rex Ryan do that to the NY Giants' stuff in their stadium since the Jets share their stadium?

I honestly have no idea, but if he did I'd feel the same way about it as I do the Lakers/Clippers situation. I just don't see why a team should have to see some OTHER team's stuff on display when they're playing a home game.

No, those days are way behind him. He's a Clipper now!

Honestly, right now the Clippers have a chance to make their own history relative to their cotenant. That's far better than putting tarps over the other teams pictures.;)

I know--and it's pretty weird to think of LA basketball, and a potentially great team, and be talking about...the CLIPPERS. But they're really looking good and they definitely have the potential to go far. I just don't know if they can overcome the Clippers curse! They've had good, even great, players before, but somehow always came up short.

I like Doc Rivers a lot, despite his Celtic past, and I think he may be the one to finally get them over the hump.

However, I will NOT be on the Clippers bandwagon; I'll still be bleeding...and quite possibly, crying...purple and gold.

sorry, but last night was totally embarasing as laker fan........i mean to get so blown out like that.......BY THE CLIPPERS!!!!!!

i mean if it was miami or somebody else, but it had to be the clippers:mad:

I hate, hate, that in the NBA the only way to move on from a championship era is to lose, lose, and lose some more. You want your team to do well, but find yourself longing for a loss. It's why I have a hard time following the Celtics during the down years. I know the only way they will get better is to lose and get to the top three in the draft, but I cannot root for that. So I watch for the ten years when there is promise or when they are at the top of their game. Then I pay attention from the sidelines for the 10-15 years it takes to fully dismantle and rebuild until there is real hope again. The NBA / NBAPA need to fix this for their own common good. I watch the Sox / Pat's / Bruins every year as you never know, teams always have a chance. It doesn't work that way in the NBA.:(

Sorry for the rant.:o
