Clock timer sound - how to silence

On my Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 I set a timer using the clock. When time was up a sound started as expected, but I could find no button to turn it off. The only way I could silence it was to power down the tablet. Is there a better way of shutting off the sound?

it should have been in your pull down notification bar.

also there should have been a popup window notifying you. did you unlock the screen to see?
