Root Clockworkmod Help

So I would like to flash CM7 onto my Captivate. I have previously installed Clockworkmod, but I dont get the recovery menu options. When I bought my phone it was already rooted, and I have the root checker app and that says that I am rooted. can I get an assist, please.

When you say that you don't get the recovery menu options, do you mean from within the phone or you just can't get in to recovery mode at all... I know that, if you turn the phone off, there is usually a combination of keys when you nturn on that gets you into recovery mode.

Just had a quick look for you - have you tried this out:

I actually thought that if you held the volume up button it did one thing and if you held the volume down button it did another thing... as in one of the combinations went in to download mode and the other went in to recovery mode, but according to the link I've just put, you hold volume both up and down. I don't actually have your phone, but this usually seems the right way to do it!

Hope that sorts you out!!

I can get into the recovery mode from both turning off the phone and selecting reboot into recovery more from the CWM menu. Is it possible that when the person that owned it before me perhaps screwed up the root and now I cant do anything with it now?

What do you see on the first couple of lines in recovery mode? If you have Eclair (2.1) you should see '2e' somewhere in reference to the version of the recovery mode. If you have Froyo (2.2) you should see a '3e' instead. If there is '3e' then Clockwork Mod may not be installed. Froyo requires update.zip files to be signed and won't let you install without the signature. That being said, there are ways around it.

That is what I have gotten from looking around here and the XDA Developers site.
