Clockworkmod Recovery after AR v2.3??

I have installed Arearom v2.3. But im just now learning about Clockworkmod recovery. Is this safe for me to install at this point? The reason i ask is because i understand you need Rom Manager to use CWR.. But ive heard from some that Rom Managers may brick my phone... Any ideas or input?
