Clogged XP Drive

Now I’m trying Disk Cleanup, which I suppose I should have been doing every full moon for the last eight years, cuz at this rate, it’s going take a couple days.

I Surrender!

Drive usage going up with every reboot even with no new files, almost (fictionally) capped. Was at Walmart, they had a Gateway for 298 bucks, I said the hell with it, bought it. And now, endless setup. Talk to you later...

That'll be win 8 then?

Good luck with the new pc chap!

You know, now you can to put the old drive, format it, and slam it in an enclosure, if you need a portable/backup drive ;)

Yeah, that’s all you can get anymore, driving in to a Walmart these days.
1. Re-install RollBack, the tinkerer’s savior.
2. Install Classic Shell, to circumvent the 8-ness of Win-8.
3. Recreate eight years of the old PC, actually just the vital 10%.

...been preparing for this rash decision for some time.

Oh. My. God.

Woke up in the middle of the night knowing what must be clogging my drive. Checked system restore to make sure it wasn't that -- it had been off all the time, so that wasn't the problem.

The clue was when trying to install Rollback on the new PC, it mentioned exactly what was killing the old PC -- the invisible logical drive that Rollback has to create to do its thing. And apparently it has to make itself bigger every time I roll back, which I did a lot. I've created a monster!

Now that Rollback and its logical nightmare are uninstalled, I have over 200GB free, like I thought should all this time.

But now that I've fixed the old one, what the h*ll do I do with new one? I've spent a day loading it up with myself and don't how to revert all that other than uninstalling and deleting everything I can think of. Then I could try to return it to Walmart. saying that the screen is full of rectangles! (metro reference)

Somone please wish me luck retuning the new one

Somebody must have, silently, cuz it worked. And I actually got it returned by just slamming the new OS. It was a scary way to learn how awful Win8 is.

I like that you can use Win 8 as an excuse for returning a PC and they accept it. They must have just thought 'Fair enough' lol.

I told her that I was very familiar with XP and my mom was fairly familiar, so I was gonna get her a new PC along with her usual mom day candies. But since I had heard some bad things about the new Windows, I took it home first to prep myself for training her. I couldn

for windows cleanup i use CCleaner

That and a couple dozen other programs and plugins are why I can’t just up and change operating systems – my PC has been configured and customized over the years to do a lot more than just what Windows can.

That, I’ve learned, even goes for Win 8 over XP. I will switch to something someday, but this recent debacle has taught me how cozy I’ve become with XP. And me being not alone with that mindset explains why this thirteen-year old OS just won’t go away.

windows xp is a nice os. win 7 is better. i used ubuntu for the past year and i just switched to win 8 not too long ago. ill propally end up going back to ubuntu. but ive tryed alot of programs to clean and imo ccleaner is the best.
