Help Close banner notification but keep notification in status bar

Hi all. Just recently upgraded to Lollipop, and have started to receive notifications with a banner / heads up (not sure what it's called) at the top of the screen. Now the banner stays there for a while, a lot longer than I'd like. Is there a way I can 'close' or get rid of the banner once I've seen it, but without removing the notification from the status bar? At present I can swipe to the side but then the notification won't show up on the status bar.

I don't think there is mate, not that ive heard of anyway
Do you have the option to turn off heads up?

Darn it nah the only way you can turn them off is by turning off the notifications all together. Hopefully android brings in some better controls soon.

Or flash a custom rom. Cyanogen has the option
