Cloud battery performance? Real examples?

With the lack of an SD slot, and the "cloud" solution being offered as a reasonable solution, what practical data is there on what a cloud solution would mean?

For example, the last two days I've been Google music on my DX due to a dead SD card slot. Tracking time and battery, I took a 20% hit after 1 hour. This was over 3G, in a place where I had excellent reception. The music play was seamless, with minor buffering only when skipping tunes.

So setting aside all the other reasons why cloud solutions have problems like for example poor coverage or data throttling, assuming you have access to the cloud how does it chew up the battery?

Honestly I would put my most listened to music on internal storage (or podcasts and such) and then leave the rest of my music in the cloud. This way I could listen to most of my music locally so my battery wouldn't take a hit.

You will definitely see a battery hit streaming from Google music though.

Well, what I'm looking for is practical experience. My DX is only a single data point. Can others post their experience with other platforms? Is the DX really bad at this our will most phones take a similar hit?

I know a few people that have the DX, and from what I can tell those have really good battery life. Google music kills the Barry on my evo pretty quickly, so I wouldn't count on very good battery life if you plan on streaming any type of media for long periods of time.
