Root CM6.1.1 and a2SD+ Help

I got my Desire (CDMA version) about a year ago, and rooted it and upgraded to CM6.1.0 RC2 the day I got it. I've been very happy with a couple exceptions and one of my issues has finally come to a head - I need more storage.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why I can't get it to use the EXT partition on my SD card...

I have clockwork v2.5.0.9 on it and went into advanced -> Partition SD card to set up the card. I chose 512 ext and 32mb cache sizes and it did it's thing.

Re-flashed to CM6.1.1. When I go into Settings -> SD card and phone storage, it shows the total space at 147MB, which is just the internal memory... Free is showing at 87.59MB.

Thought about trying CM7.1, but I don't know if I want Gingerbread or not (need to do some reading)...

What am I missing? Keep in mind that I'm relearning everything as I've slept a couple times between when I originally set up the phone and today...

Thanks,

Danny

With me setting the ext to 512MB when the partition was set up, I'd expect this to show more like 600MB total with 520MB free... Or will it not update that screen with the increased capacity? If not, how can I tell it worked (without installing 100MB worth of apps)?

Thanks,

Danny

Try an app called Quick System Info With a2sd+ your phone will not see the extra memory but it will use it. QSI will check it out for you.

You should read the root memory faq in my signature (appears once per page). Internal memory value doesn't change. Just goes down slower.

Also see grenws post, also in the faq

Also you don't mention installing simple2ext or flashing an a2sd script. You may have taken that for granted, and hence not mentioned it, or maybe CM6 comes with a2sd by default. But I know CM7 doesn't come with a2sd unless you add it, so just wanted to check CM6 isn't similar.

Got it working....

Thanks for the help. I've read a lot while trying to implement this, but I had never come across that the increased space doesn't show up in the settings...

Setting up the partitions in recovery had worked properly. I got a GParted CD made and put the card in my computer and verified it was set up properly. With that verified, I started re-installing programs with Titanium. I thought that CM6 had apps2sd+ built-in but apparently not. About half way through the recovery, I ran out of space, so obviously it wasn't working yet...

At that point, I flashed DT apps2sd+ v2.7.5.3 Beta 4 and my free space jumped from 12MB to 64MB. I installed the rest of my programs and still have 57MB left. Yay!

Only problem I've encountered is that it tries to hang on the HTC screen sometimes on reboots. I have to pull the battery and re-start and then it will boot fine. Weird and a real pain as I keep the phone in a Otterbox Defender, but it seems stable once it's up, but time will tell...

Final question - can apps2sd+ be used with the normal a2sd to use even more space? Don't think I'd ever need to, just curious. I'll move the Dalvak cache over if I start having space issues.

Thanks again,

Danny

Since I got it working, I did a little more playing. I re-flashed with CM7.1.0 (and google apps) and then downloaded and installed S2E to handle the extended partition. This method works well to and it seems to have corrected the reboot hang issue I was seeing with CM6.1.1. Also, with the same programs installed (and Launcher Pro updated to newest version), my available space is now 72.41MB, so it looks like it may do a little better memory management too.

The other plus is that this ROM has the camera color fix built-in so that's nice.

I installed it to just see how Gingerbread looked/worked on my phone, but I think it's going to be a keeper...
