Root CM7 nightlies are now avaible

I'm on version 15 now it I must say that it is very stable and no issues for me.

I did however, take the precaution of formatting my SDcard and resetting my phone before switching from the CyanogenMod 6.1 (stable) to the Gingerbread, CM7, version in case there were any conflicts in settings etc:

I then reloaded (not restored) everything from scratch.

IMHO they cannot be too far off a stable release I would have thought.

In the meantime I'm loving CM7! :D
 
How long should I wait after initial boot? The animation is just running... somebody said 10-20 minutes...
 
...flashed the darn thins 2 times now ,and didn't have to wait that long ,maybe 1-2 minutes before system load ,that's strange ,try re-flashing !
 
So, if I am doing this for the first time (I'm still in research mode), is going with CM7 --which I assume means a nightly release-- ok. That is, is the consensus that these builds are pretty stable? What are the pros and cons,stable CM6 vs CM7?

I imagine for the flashing process itself (and any risks from flashing), it makes no difference. Flashing (and the previous steps like unlocking the bootloader, etc) is Flashing no matter what version you are working with? Is that a reasonable assumption.

Nightlies are automatic compilations of the developers source regardless if there are any actual changes to the source that day. Nightlies are pre RC so are considered "Alpha" and might not be the best choice for someone who's phone is mission critical. That said my phone is "mission critical" and I use the Nightlies as there really are quite stable. Occasionally a bug will sneak in that will prompt you to quickly "roll-back" to a previous nightly. The included ROM manager makes this a breeze.

If you have never used a custom ROM before then certainly start with the latest Cyanogen 6 Stable.. there is lots to fall in love with there. Once you get comfortable using the included "Rom Manager" you can explore playing with the CM 7 Nightlies or RC releases.
