Is Android is going down a dead end?

When will Google rejoin the Linux kernel community?

Is it Goodle's business model (spyware by any other name?) clashes with the ethics of the open source community?
 
I don't necessarily think that Android is going down a dead end... though I do think that the Linux community is waaaaay too fragmented for it's own good.

I read this in Wikipedia from Znet:
