co pilot volume problem?

As a newby i wonder if anyone can help me please. I have installed Co pilot v8 on my HTC Desire and installed the uk and ireland maps. Everything is visually fine but the volume is not working..I can increase and decrease but the setting is never remembered once i close the volume tab down.
I have researched and there have been a number of different answers but can anybody give a difinitive one please. Using android 2.2

Do you have any volume control apps you are using? If, so check the settings for Navigation/system. Check your settings under sounds on your phone and see if there is a setting for Navigation/system settings.

It sounds like you're using the volume control in the quick menu, which only affects the current session of the app. To make a persistent change, you need to change the volume via the settings menu.

I'd give you more detail, but I don't have V8 installed any longer and can't verify the actual steps required.
