Looks like Sprint took care of it:
$11,000 Sprint bill, international roaming! - Page 4 - SprintUsers.com
She seems to be upset about $9000. What the hell did she do to rack up the other 2 grand she seems to be ok about?
I worked in customer service for Voicestream (now T-mobile) way back in 2001-2002. I got a call from someone who wanted to pay his bill. I thought he was going to flip when I told him that his bill was over $17,000 for just one line. Without hesitation he gave me his credit card number and paid the balance. I looked at his billing history because I wanted to know why it was so high. Over the course of a year his bills ranged from $70 all the way up to $25,000/month because he traveled to Russia several times a year. Must have been a multi-millionaire or something.
There was some article going around a while ago about a guy who used a data card on a cruise to stream a Bears game.. incurred 22K in charges.. lol
On one hand you need to be responsible as a consumer.. but on the other companies should have something to safe guard an account from insane amounts of overages.. it just helps them stay out of the press for these kinda things in the long run.
Agreed. Some credit card companies will flag and suspend your card if you go from 3 years of moderate charges in the US to thousands in charges in Mexico over the course of 2 days. Cell phone companies should do the same. At a certain point, suspend the account and call the customer. Customer says "yea thats me, I don't care about money" then unlock the account and away you go.
