Help com port not turning yellow in odin

Trying t o install a custom rom on my s3 but must first u odin. My phone is rooted. My usb cable work s and let's me transfer files. I have my phone in download mode I've tried all mu usb ports and noe yellow just blue. The drivers the guide I used told me to use install correctly but when I plugged in my phone I didn't get the added message. I then used windows to find my drivers it did and I then got the added message but no yellow. Just blue. Whst do I do next

May I ask how are you flashing it and what is it your flashing . after flashing all the drivers did you reboot . rebooting will kill all background process running on your PC/laptop . and what windows are you using .

I believe it's OK to flash if it's blue as opposed to yellow. I've flashed them with blue as opposed to yellow. I don't know much, but I figured that was just an aesthetic thing in a version difference.

I think if it shows a color in a com box, you're good.

When you plug the phone into the computer in download mode, does the computer recognize it? If so, I think you're good.

NOTE: disclaimer - follow my advice, brick your phone, it's not my fault. :)

Yeah tbh i cant remember the colours lol but i think you should just hit start and youll either get a green "pass" or you wont.
Let us know what it is youre trying to flash though ;)

Can't remember what I'm trying to flash. Ill let u all know when I get home. But I tried it with the blue and never got the green pass. Nothing happened and whrn I plug in my ohone while in download mode it doesn't s how up in my computer. But obviously odin sees it

It is normal for the bar in Odin to be blue in newer (V3.07 V3.09) versions of Odin.

Daft questions (see my signature), but you have in download mode pressed the volume up key after you get the warning about installing a custom ROM? And also have you enabled USB debugging mode on your phone by going (from any home screen) menu>Settings>general >about device>(scroll down to build number), tap repeatedly until you get the toast message "your a developer", go back (right soft key) >developer options and make sure "USB debugging" is ticked. Then try download mode again with Odin.

As above, be warned if your not sure what your doing (and if it is either of these two things that are wrong in the first place you are, definitely, "not sure" in my opinion), I would stop and have a good read up on using Odin before I continued. I world hate any one to brick their phone.

before i go any further there is a part in the kitkat guide that throws me off a tad

its under prerequisites
your device have latest cwm version 6.0.4.4 and up or twrp 2.6.3.0 and up installed

i then of couse click on

install cwm 6.0.4.5 advance edition on at&t galaxy s3 how to guide

its worded weird and i just want to make sure i dont mess up my s3

went to download cyanogenmod11 kitkat rom and the file couldnt be found, where can i get the most functional and stable kitkat rom for my s3.

found another dowload link, can i just use this file and continue with the tutorial, i would assume i could, sorry for the back to back to back posts, really trying to get this accomplished as ive wanted to do this for a longtime

From what it looks like it is telling you can use either the newer version of CWM or the older one as tapping on the
"Install CWM 6.0.4.5 Advance Edition on AT&T Galaxy S3 SGH-I747 - How To Guide" hyper link in point 5 of the pre requisites in the guide tells you got can use either CWM 6.0.4.4 or CWM 6.0.4.5.

Now I'm just going on that guide in general (which is a bit confusing!) but looks as though it knows what the author is taking about. It is recommending Philz touch recovery, which I too would recommend as a "custom recovery". Try not to get confused as Philz touch has its own version numbers seperate from the CWM version number. CWM stands for Clock Work Mod and Philz Touch is an advanced touch screen version with lots of options for it.

Yeah i use philz 6.0.4.5 but an up to date CWM will flash a kitkat rom too.
If you downloaded the rom using your phone, in recovery, it will be in sdcard0 in the /download folder

First thing though.. PLEASE make a full backup in recovery. It will take about 10 minutes but its worth it

Also, have you downloaded a Gapps (google apps) package to flash after flashing the rom?
Youll need that to get Play Store etc

If the other download of cyanogenmod11 kitkat ROM is exactly the same file then I would think (assume - don't blame me if it breaks stuff!) you will be OK.

Yeah as long as the rom is built for your exact model of s3 it will be cool. Just make a nandroid backup in recovery before you flash anything

Yes make a back up, for the sake of ten minutes or so just do it. Get into the habit of doing backups everytime you want to flash something, trust me it is worth it.

ok i have cyanogenmod 11 installed it looks cool, i just need my apps back, how do i get apps that i got on the google apps store? ill use aptoide for some but some arent on aptoide, or could i just download the apk and install it? thanks again for the help

I absolutely DONT recommend using a*****e!!!!
Did you back up your apps?
If not. All your payed apps will still be available on Play and you dont have to pay again
On cyanogen11, i recommend that you enable developer options (tap build number 7times), go into developer options and change "select run time" to "ART".
The phone will reboot and take a long time to boot but will be noticeably faster and smoother once it boots

the gapps link for cyanogenmod11 wasnt found, what is wrong with aptoide and i did a backup using backup go pro or something like that, how do i restore my apps

ive never heard of that app but youll have to flash a 4.4 gapps package. Ill upload one if you want. Then you have to go on Play and download your backup app to restore the backup.
The problem with Ap***** (that app store) is that it uses repo's full of pirated apps that are riddled with malware. Just dont use it. Its stealing from developers and will mess your phone up
