Root Coming from Evo 4G

The phone I was running for the past couple years has been the Evo, and I'm seriously considering using my upgrade to get a E4GT. If you don't mind, can you give me your feedback on the phone (positive & negative). Thank you. :D

this is my work phone. my personal is an htc rezound running an ICS leak.
the e4gt is nice enough. the biggest problems i have with it is it's not running ICS and sprints 4g wi-max network is crap compared to verizon lte.
touch wiz is comparable to sense and a lot better than motor blur. (i also had a droid x)
the camera and screen on this thing is amazing though. it's light and thin, but the plastic doesn't feel too cheap.
if i were you, i'd wait for the next round of phones on sprint's lte network. they're only going to get better.

Hey frenchy...havent seen you on here since I got rid of my Evo!

I would wait to upgrade and not choose this phone. I did and I miss my OG Evo so much :/ There was so much more to do, and so many more developers working on it...the Samsung community is severely lacking when compared to the HTC community.

I will say the battery life is outstanding though and the speed is friggin great but other than that you may as well just wait a few months for the Evo LTE.

Thanks for the feedback. I would wait for the EvoLTE but I'm in East Tawas Michigan (small town w/ a population of less than 5k), and am concerned that when the LTE phones are released this area won't experience the benefits of having one.

Also, it's nice seeing you again Handler! How ya been?

Yeah I live in Minneapolis and even we arent going to get LTE for at least a year probably 2. That said I rarely use 4G anyways so I am not too worried and if it is half as awesome as it sounds the new Evo could be amazing.

I may be a bit harsh on this phone, there are some advantages over the OG Evo even if I do miss that phone all the time. First of all rooting it is super simple, way easier than the Evo was. The Rogue version of CWM is really easy to use and while it is not as awesome as Amon Ra is for the HTC phones it is way better than the old CWM.

Also flashing new radios and kernals is less risky and a bit easier on the Epic4G than it is on the HTC phones. (way less chance of bricking) The newest radios seemed to have borked the GPS so I flashed the old ones in like 10 seconds and now it working great. I am on the stock kernal but have it tweaked a bit so it runs better. (unlike the Evo where the stock kernal had no real governors to choose from iirc) The phone absolutely flies and without even tweaking I would say the battery life is twice that of the OG Evo mainly because it doesnt have Sense. (which I freely admit I miss now for Friendstream alone) The screen is more responsive too and the internal memory rocks.

I have been good, it is good to see you too. :) I miss the Evo forum where it seemed like something new was coming around every few days. This board is very slow and updates are few and far between. I also miss running a Mik Rom...that guy and his fellow developers really made things fun. That said if you like the CM Roms or are looking to get some ICS goodness then you found the right phone because there are lots of Roms based on that.

Here is a link that can help you find the Roms, kernals and radios. Links to Wikis

Thanks again for your very informative and helpful feedback. I haven't made my decision just yet, but this is at the top of my list as far as phones go. I'll see you around AF!!! Take care.

This phone is great IMO, and I've never regretted getting it. I suffered with the loose charging port on too many Evos so didn't mind ditching it when I had the chance. Don't get me wrong. The Evo was one of my favorite phones but I enjoy the epic touch more.

If you're using an upgrade I'd suggest a newer phone. If you do decide on this one you won't be disappointed.

I like the fact that the E4GT has great Dev support and a great community. I don't want to end up getting a newer phone and the Dev support along with the community is *lacking*. That's one of the reasons I loved my Evo.
