Commandr vs Assistant vs Google Now ??

Hi guys

I'm trying to find a voice command app that will do things like read aloud my last text message... etc but I'm unsure what route I should take.

Google now has come a long way now and allows me to do I almost everything I need from a voice command app but its still lacking things like the reading out may last text message.

While trying to find out if google now could do the things I want, I come across commandr and then while reading up on commandr I come across assistant by speaktoit and I'm now stuck between what I should use :(

Usually I would just install assistant and see how it goes but I've read a few cases of people having problems after they uninstall it.


So what do you guys think?


Also I know there's a setting to have the "ok google" command work from the lock screen but is there a way to get if to work while the phone is in sleep mode?
 
I wouldn't recommend using assistant because of the unnecessary notifications which come along with it , it gets really annoying. I've not really had the need to say read out my last text message :P but in my personal experience i'd say use Google Now as it has one of the best voice recognition and that is what matters right? easy understanding of your accent.

and no you cant make it work in sleep mode :)

Yeah I also read that assistant drains a lot of battery.

I come across utter but iu dismissed it when I read a load of bad reviews on forums.


So really if I want to stay with google now but with more commands then I guess commandr would be the best route?

And there's not even a xposed tweak...etc that would allow Google now to work while the phones asleep?
 
I've just found an app called open mic+ that let's you use ok google even if the phones screen is off.

I've not tried it yet but at least its possible.... lol

I use Utter! (free). Works fine. Shallow learning curve. Haven't tried the others. Any personal assistant app will be harder on batteries if you put it in always-listening mode. That's just the laws of physics. Always listening means always processing audio info. I tried Utter! in that mode but it was too hard on batteries so now I just put a big Utter! icon on each home-screen, and I tied it to the "search" button. In that mode it does not use noticeably more battery.

I tried utter for a few days and then while I was messing about in the settings,it out of the blue said something about me trying to rip off the developer and that it was going to send ALL my details to google fraud department.

I don't know what this was all about and how I would even be able to rip off a free app...lol

Also I found that it didn't it didn't always understand me and I had to keep repeating myself (I'm English so its not like I have a strange accent).



Any other recommendations?
