Communicating with computer

How do I get my phone to communicate with my computer? When I plug it in through USB all it does is charge.

It depends on your phone model and UI skin, but typically:

You should have a notification that your phone is charging. Pull down your notification bar and tap the charge notification. You should now be given a few options, one of which is something like "USB Disk mode", "Disk Mode" or something similar. Give the computer a few minutes to install the drivers and you should see an autoplay message to connect to your phone.

Just to note, for some brands you have to install their brand specific usb driver to get it to work. I know some of moto and samsung need.
