Help Compatibility With Other Phones For Texting?

Reddeyzer

Lurker
As I'm having trouble posting, I'm going to break this into a few posts.

Part I

I have what seems to be an unusual problem. I've looked through many pages of threads here and didn't see anybody else who's experiencing the same issue.

I was able to text to all of my friend's and family's phones for the first couple of months that I had my Galaxy. Then, last week, certain phones would receive texts from me, but with no body--no letters and words. iPhones and Blackberries have no problem receiving texts from my phone, but older "not smart" phones do. Further complicating things is that I am using Virgin Mobile as my service provider. They use the same cell phone network my friends and family use, which is SaskTel--they just pay rent to SaskTel for the privilege.

Virgin Mobile has been less than helpful. They claim it is a SaskTel issue and basically, that's that.

SaskTel has tried their best to help, even though I'm not their customer. So far they have suggested that it is a Virgin Mobile issue, a Kies issue as for some reason Virgin has locked my phone from getting updates, or a compatibility issue between my smart phone and the older phones.

So I'm confused. I'll bet you are too! This is a strange issue, and a complicated story.

Part II

I'll boil down the main points:

- I am using Virgin Mobile, which in Saskatchewan uses SaskTel towers
- the phones that are receiving the empty texts are SaskTel customers, but almost everyone else I text are SaskTel customers too, and they have no problem
- the phones receiving the empty texts are not smart phones
- this issue suddenly started nearly two weeks ago, after proper text functioning up to that point
- Virgin claims the texts are going through their service properly and mysteriously hit the wall at SaskTel and disappear into thin air. SaskTel claims that the texts come through properly but that they are in a format that these phones cannot translate--which seems bizarre to me, considering that these phones *could* translate the texts until two weeks ago.
- none of my friends, colleagues, or family are having this problem with SaskTel. My phone is the only one this happens with. Coincidentally, I am the only one in this circle of people using Virgin Mobile. I am also the only one in this circle of people using a Galaxy.

That was long-winded. Sorry! But has anyone heard of this happening before? Is it the phone? Is it the network? What the heck is going on? Unless I can use the text function, this phone is nothing more than an expensive paper weight.

Thanks in advance, and again--sorry for the lengthy posts!

They are of varying lengths. The last 20 or so have been short, like "test", because we (and SaskTel) have been trying to troubleshoot.
