hell all.. i have an iphone 4 and my dad has a htc evo. we are trying to figure out which apps will work on both. we hunt together and was looking at getting a location app that we could see where each other are while in the woods. no more 2 way radios or anything. i fouind a couple that would work but thought i would ask you guys. also any cool app that works on iphone and evo would be appreciated. thanks!! im loving the evo. i may be changing if the service gets better. my iphone always has full service at the camp and the evo doesnt. hopefully it will get better soon
 
If your dad doesn't have service at the camp then his phone cannot provide GPS data to your phone. He would need to have access to 3G, 4G, or WiFi while in the woods. His GPS will work because I have used my GPS abroad before but you won't have access to that information since he won't have access to a signal.

some work ... google maps will cache local maps so it can keep going with gps and last current data info.

some location based apps use google for maps info

How will the fathers lat/long get to his son phone without a data signal. The GPS works in conjunction with cell phone towers. No towers mean no signal to pass your location to the requester unless you are the police. They can locate you through the cell phone company.
 
thanks for the replys guys.. keep them coming.. he does get a lil service here and there but the location app im looking for will be used during other hunting trips.. not just our club.. we turkey hunt alot. we never stay togehter so its good to be able to see where each other are. its crazy i know but iphone to iphone worked awesome for me and my cousin so was hoping to find a app that would work for evo and iphone.. the pops is looking forward to it. he really hates the horrible service he gets but the phone is still making up for it right now.. hopefully sprint will get better pretty quick.. he had a crappy nextel phone and i talked him into switching to the smart phone.. hehe.. he gonna hate me if he doesnt get service much.. lol
