Completely Transformed

I've been mulling over two changes for over five years: a new PC and a better place to live. Almost giving up on the move, I ordered a PC that should kick butt on my current relic. And then, two days later, a friend, whose house I've always admired, just decided to move, right out of the blue. She gave me a pre-listing, chummy offer and I'm about to take it.

So, in a couple months, my living situation will be completely transformed. I started this thread to have a place to express my upcoming joys and sorrows...

Congrats on the new digs. Are you buying? Even if it's the Taj Mahal, get an inspection prior to moving. Your ancestors will continue to thank you for it.

It's just a another singlewide 'manufactured home' just across town. But this one is in a 55+ community. That idea came to me when I grew weary of loud neighbors, complete with visits from the police, waking me in the middle of the night. That and realizing that, at sixty, I actually am a senior now.

The new house is well crafted, way up a hill, with pretty good views, especially compared to where I am now.

So far, the only thing in all that that spooks me is not the house, but the new PC – it'll have Windows 8.1... certain to up to Win 10 soon.

At 25, Windows 8.1 still scares the hell out of me. I got my laptop back from repair a few weeks ago and it's weird using this OS. I have 7 at work but have mostly switched to the tablet life at home, using my Nexus 9. In fact, I have not yet used my laptop enough to know if ASUS fixed it.

But enough of that BS, congrats on the new house. IIRC you were looking to move to southern Nevada....but you're now going to stay in Phoenix, is that correct?

Sorry, my fault that we're discussing two completely different things. Just amused that both things, after five years of deliberation, both happened the same week.

As for the first, this is the PC. I wanted a hefty machine and figured if Win10 is coming free and pretty soon for either Win7 or Win8 users, the Win8.1 experience can only be so painful.

As for the second, I live north of Phoenix, four thousand feet higher and most importantly, about twenty degrees cooler. I lived in Phoenix one year and that was too many. And the new house has windows, and shades, and even air conditioning.

...and look what it did to you.

I may grow old, but I'll never grow up.

Yep, it was mutually agreed a few months ago, on my birthday, that I was the world's first sixty year-old teenager. But there's been something about that number, sixty, that stuck in my craw. It's enough to make me buy a new computer and move across town, having realized that I'm actually not a teenager anymore.

The 'community' is a hilly chunk of land, and this house is about third from the top of the highest hill. By 'community,' I mean 55+, in an Indian reservation, no less.

I decided, after finding or inventing a million little problems, to back out. Couldn't put my finger on it but there was something about the place that didn't set right... I may have just lost a friend.

So now I'm just partially transformed.

It was either the to-be floody hill on one side, that the driveway ran off a cliff if you didn't maneuver right, the price – being marketable – being a lot more then I ever wanted spend on a singlewide, all that stuff made me feel better dropping it than hanging onto it. Difficult decision, especially making it from the dump I'm in now... but there's still that PC coming tomorrow.

you did the right thing..always always go with your instinct..even if it doesn't make a lot of sense at the time..:) besides..now that you are somewhat open to finding another place, the right opportunity will come along ..and you'll know it!
I used to love windows..but I haven't used windows in so long I'm not sure if I would like it anymore..I think 7 was the last I had..
oh and.. I keep getting more of a handful and more immature every year!:)

I actually was having spooky dreams about that driveway cliff, asked the seller about it this morning. Seller said you can't keep changing your mind, I said you're right, I'm out. It was such a well maintained and improved house that it made the decision almost impossible, but I do feel that my exit was correct.

It's probably for the best, for your well-being & the friendship.
The cliche' of friends/family & $/business not a good mix:
I couldn't think of a better example.

Well, we both worked at the same realty several years ago, so we already trust each other business-wise. And she wasn't trying to get me to buy it for the sake of the sale, because we're both confident that she can sell it easily by listing it. She was just giving us both a break but I couldn't swallow the home's peculiarities. I think there's no hard feelings, in fact, we're going to have lunch tomorrow... want to be a fly on the wall?
