Comprehensive Emulator Guide

In order to pair a ps3 controller though, you will have to root the tablet. If you get a nexus, that will be ready to root. Also if you get one of the transformer tablets with the keyboard dock, a corded xbox 360 controller will work with it immediately.

Hi guys, I'm new to this sort of stuff, and just wondered how easy it it to play Pokemon using an emulator, is it illegal and how many people do it ?

Playing it is easy if your device's hardware is good enough, however downloading the rom file of the game to play it is piracy. So in order to be completely legal to do so, you need to dump the game from your own copy. As such, I doubt you will find any help finding where to find the games.

The only one I know of is a modified version of visualboy advance, but that only works on a computer rather than android.

There's actually one that claims to have link functions up and running for things like pokemon. Vgba or something like that. I'll have to check my email.

:edit:
Yup, its VGBA on google play, costs 4.99 though.

Has anyone here tried DraStic? It's really good. I've been playing Animal Crossing: WW and some of the Mario games with it lately. Animal Crossing is especially cool since you don't need to use the buttons, d-pad or top screen to play it.

I cam to say the same thing... I've tried Mario Kart, Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh... Awesome...

Hello, I registered here just to let you know your list is quite nice. I have been into emulating games on android since the release of the Xperia Play in which I own a few of. I am interested in getting Atari 5200 and 7800 working on my Xperia Play and I noticed Colleen and 2 other emulators (Atari800, and Droid800) which should be able to emulate the Atari 5200 on the android. I have all the roms and the 5200.rom (bios) however, when attempting to run any 5200 roms on the Xperia Play, the atari symbol appears for a few seconds and then the emulators die on me. Has anyone out there gotten this/these emulator(s) to work for them to emulate the 5200 on the android?

Emulators I use and have been fond of using daily are:

2600.emu (Atari 2600)
jzintv4droid (Intellivision)
ColEm Deluxe (ColecoVision)
NES.emu (Nintendo)
MasterGear (SEGA Master System)
PCE.emu (Turbo Grafx 16 / PC Engine / DUO)
MD.emu (SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive and Sega CD)
Snes9x EX+ (Super Nintendo)
NEO.emu (NEO-GEO)
Tiger Arcade 4.0.2 (CPS-1 Capcom Arcade Games) and it emulates others!
MAME4droid (Arcade Machines)
CPSEmu (CPS-2 Capcom Arcade games)
FPse (PlayStation)
N64oid (Nintendo 64)

Gearoid (Sega Game Gear)
aLynx (Atari LYNX)
NGP.emu (NEO-GEO Pocket)
WonderDroid (WonderSwan)
GBC.emu (Gameboy / Gameboy Color)
GBA.emu (Gameboy Advance)
DraStic (Nintendo DS)
PPSSPP (PlayStation Portable) - Not really playable yet to my satisfaction, but getting better.

SToid (Atari ST) - I have this but have not used it yet. lol

As you can see I use quite a few nice emulators, and they get the job done for everything I need. I really only need the Atari 5200 and 7800 emulated to have the whole classic feel complete on my Xperia Play. If anyone can get those 2 Emulators going or know how to get the 5200 working on Colleen or the other two I would love to hear how you do it. Also, my Xperia play is rooted, unlocked and running the DoomKernel at 2 Ghz without a problem so running the DraStic or anything else is not any issues and they all run at full speed. (Just in case you were going to ask, lol)

Thanks for reading and I look forward to your replies.

Oh and there is now a multiple Emulator in our midst for android called RetroArch which you should be keeping your eyes peeled for as it runs a ton of games, and on my Nintendo Wii it is a brilliant emulator for CPS-1 and CPS-2! It can run Sega's Game Gear, Master System, Genesis, and SEGA 32x! Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advanced, VIRTUAL BOY, PlayStation, Capcom System 1 and 2, Atari 2600, Turbo Grafx 16 / PCEngine and PCE CD, NeoGeo Pocket, Wonderswan, CaveStory, DOOM WADs, QUAKE WADs, MAME 2003 roms and others coming soon! :D

(Cant post the link!)

I would like to add that the 3DO is one of my favorite 32bit machines, and I would LOVE to see 4DO or FREEdo get ported to android, along with the NEO-GEO CD emu! If anyone is reading this that can do it, please do it for me! lol I would love you forever! NeoGeo CD Redux on Wii is nice and 4DO on the PC rocks. I own the original consoles, but when I'm on the road I wouldn't mind playing me some Crossed Swords 2 (without using my PSP) and Immercenary! Thanks!

I cam to say the same thing... I've tried Mario Kart, Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh... Awesome...

I third this. Been playing Apollo Justice and Elite Beat Agents and the touch screen works a treat. Letting you resize and customise the screen is a big help too. Slight lag playing EBA, either the timing or sound is a little off though it's definitely playable.

That aside no issues, DraStic plays the games beautifully. Gonna really test it out with Meteos :D

Any suggestions for stylus alternatives guys?

Hey just found this list and I had not seen anyone mention the gameklip. It allows you to mount your phone to a ps3 controller and connect it using an OTG usb cable which means you do not have to root your phone. Bought mine with shipping for less than $25. Hope this helps.

why do all the emulators I find in the google play bloated with extra features and permissions?

I want just a stripped down basic small file snes emulator for droid that doesn't have bluetooth multiplayer or any of the other crap I'll never use, doesn't need permissions to access everything on my phone and just runs the games, saves the files and has control buttons on the side corners of the screen.

I can't be the only one who doesn't want some random app opening closing connecting and downloading anything over bluetooth, reading contact list ect? the only one who feels no need to carry a wiimote around in my pocket so I can play emulations on a tiny screen? the only one who prefers to keep permissions as few and limited as possible? I just want something portable on my phone. If i wanted a real controller or all these other features I can emulate on my desktop

Installed this bloody NES emulator, one hour of non-stop gaming and I almost played my eyes away! I remember, when I was a kid I played NES games for days until one day I was almost blind! :)

This looks like a great list.

I will definitely be digging through. I'm after a decent N64 Emulator to run Ocarina of Time.

Thanks for the great post

Theres a website called **mod removed link** with all the emulaters listed above and roms for them for PC, Mac, Android, and Jailbroken Iphones.

Actually, you can play wii/gamecube games on android, but you need a SUPER powerful android device. Look for "Dolphin Emulator"
