Computer connection problem

Does anyone have problems with when pluging into a computer, it loses the connection, unmounts and stops charging after a short while?

(I'm not sure if it's my laptop or what, since I don't have this problem with wall or car charger. Hell, it could even be the cable)

I'm not sure if it's the same problem -- but I do have an issue where I'm unable to access/transfer data to my phone after a certain amount of time. It gets to the point where both the phone and my laptop are unresponsive.

How long is "a short while"? And what OS are you running on your computer? I'm running Snow Leopard on a Macbook.
