Root [Concept] Early stages of LG L90 Lollipop 5.0.2 port to LG Volt

Hi all!
As the title reads, I have been doing some research on porting the stock Lollipop (5.0.2) ROM from the LG L90 to our LG Volt. If we could do this, the benefits would be huge.
As you may or may not know, the L90 is our little brother. The phones have the same chipsets and are identical except for some minor differences.
My question is, do you see any flaws in porting the stock L90 ROM to the LG Volt?

I may be completely wrong and we may not be able to port this at all, however the phones are almost IDENTICAL and I see no reason why we should not be able to port it. If we can't, then comment on why we could not :)

As I am not very practiced in android development, I was looking for some guidance and help. I have read all the ROM porting guides on this LG Volt forum but they seem to be CM to CM ports. I am trying a stock 4.4.2 to stock 5.0.2.
I tried making the stock .tar (got the L90 lollipop ROM from LG) into a .zip and attempted to follow some guides on porting the ROMs but the converted .tar ROM didn't seem to have the necessary files. Lucky I found some .zip flashable files for the L90 Lollipop ROM. Now the only thing stopping me form porting me is:
  1. I don't know if it will work (in theory it should)
  2. Any lack of experience I may have

I compiled some links to the ROMs I would be using for the port.

You should be able to do it just fine. With one exception. The rom for lollipop in general are compiled into .dat files, etc. you would have to extract everything from those then either recompile the port into .dat or leave extracted and rebuild your updater script to flash all the parts individually like 4.+ do. A lot of work. But could be done I guess. Otherwise I working 5.0 port should be possible. There are .dat tools etc on xda. Most are a bit cumbersome to use. And its why I never went further with it. The port is probably easier than reassembling everything afterwards.

If I can (do not own the volt any more so testing my changes and other things is impossible) I will help out. Not like I am getting very far on the Galaxy J3 any way. I have literally only met 3 or 4...cant recall lol...others who have the device and of those only one I can definitely say knows at least how to root and feel comfortable doing it lol. So help with it is meager at best. I am slogging along any way making mods for SystemUI and Frameworks in hopes more people come along. I do not have the needed setup for compiling recoveries nor editing boot files properly. So its out on that end. So in the meantime we can bump heads here while I just do my thing on the J3 as a side deal.

very annoying indeed. i tell what's worse. every single png file in my Samsung firmware was converted to two file types not many know much about at all. .qmg and .pio. samsung did it to thwart editing and customizing. as for the .dats you can pull everything from ok. thing is getting your updater script set up to flash everything properly or attempt to rebuild the .dat after you have got everything in place for the port. them guess what? youll have to do it all again just to bug fix before getting it right where you want it lol. what a pain.

I would probably just make it stock but I will make a debloated version for sure if stock turns out alright. I want to mess with as little as I have to for now. In the future though ;)

Sounds good! I'll see what I can get done today. I will let you know if there are any problems i run into.
