Root [concept/idea] mms over wifi

So i'm not a developer, but i was doing parkour today and it hit me: for those AOSP/AOKP/MIUI/whatever roms that don't have mms figured out yet, wouldn't it be possible to make it so the "stock" messaging application can receive mms over wifi? i know you can download "text free" from google play and those kind of apps, but could it be done for a "stock" app?

Most likely it could happen but I don't know why so many people are freaking out because mms is broken. people mostly use email or facebook anyway so it's not a huge loss. :)

what the hell is email? you mean that thing you use to log into other sites? nonsense.

My problem is with not getting MMS messages people send me, but that was solved by that really ugly themed messaging apk in the Paranoid Android thread. I don't care if I can't send, I just send imgur links now.

If you use android, you should really get a google voice number.

Then you can use their voice app for mms and picture messages and it functions over wifi and 3g (plus you get a number that will move around with you, even if you switch carriers).

If people call it, it rings your phone.

Yeah, some of us have people who use MMS because well, it's the easiest option for them.

I'm fine with being able to receive them, because I can send the person a link to whatever I want to share. Some of the people I text do not know how to do that from their phone, so yeah. Since we can receive them, I am happy. :)

I think a LOT of people use MMS. But, the people that don't have mms probably don't realize how many of their friends are sending them MMS messages which they will never see.

It's pretty much at least once a day I'm walking down the street and I see something funny and take a picture and send it to someone else or someone sends one to me.

No, we're notified that a message has arrived. It just doesn't download. So at least I know when someone sends something, and if it's important, they can email it to me.

There are a ton of times when I'd love to be able to send funny pics of random things to people, though. CM10 is hard to beat, though, even without MMS.

It's not possible with how virgin mobile works. Google Voice doesn't work.
