Concerns about purchasing the phone from Amazon

Newbie
-How would I activate the phone once I recieved it in the mail? Would it come with all the info I would need to do so? Would this also de-activate my old phone?
-Would I still be able to bring the phone in to a Verizon store for service? I would assume and hope yes.
-How would I be able to transfer all the contacts? I have backupassist on my phone now.. but not sure if that would automatically update my new phone with those numbers or what.
-In a review by Wirefly their phone did not come with a lte sim card when they took the phone out of the box. Is this something I would have to buy separately? Not even sure what the lte sim card does lol

Thanks for the responses in advance, I really can't wait to get this phone!

I asked verizon this question as well. They said you will be able to activate the new phone easily at home by calling an 800 number. This will deactivate your old phone. Contacts and emails are easily transferred to the new phone if you have a gmail account (sync option on).

Ordering through Amazon it should ship with a sim card activated.

Just insert sim card and turn phone on and it will take couple minutes to activate it. Don't dial *228 or whatever it is or dial any number before it is activated. If no sim card goto Verizon. You shouldn't be charged for sim cards.

You can use Gmail to back contacts or use backup assistant now and when you get New phone run it again.. never used back up assistant though.

Thanks for the responses so far everyone!

My old phone is an LG ENV so it isn't a smartphone. Therefor I'm not sure how I would use Gmail to sync my contacts.

I plan on going to Verizon to double check the answers I get here. I'm asking all of these ahead of time though since I would like to go to the store more informed than I am now.

Amazon Wireless is awesome, have no fears about ordering through them.

In order:

The phone will come activated. The carrier either ports or activates a new number prior to your order getting to you. If you encounter any issues, a quick call to VZW and they'll activate it no problem. As far as deactivating your old phone, once your number is ported onto the new one, yes it deactivates your old phone. Simply turn it off. ;)

Of course you can bring the phone into Verizon for service. It's their phone, you simply bought it through a third party reseller.

Yes, backup should do the trick although since you're using a Google phone you should really have all of your contacts with Google. This way all you have to do when getting a new phone is log into your google account. Easy as can be.

Your phone should absolutely come with a sim card.

Mine didnt come with a sim card fyi good thing i had my tbolt sim . went to verizon for a new sim for the tbolt no charge my wife is rockin the bolt now

Be aware that if by service you mean replacement device, that for the first 14 days only Amazon can replace the phone. Retail stores can't do it. After that you get all warranty services thru vzw

So you got yours through Amazon, and it didn't come with a sim card?

What is the limit of days I have to get a replacement device through a retail store? 30 days? Is this like if for some reason the phone only lasts 5 hours on a charge with things shut off (like I've read about) I only have 14 days to exchange it for a new one?

Thanks for the posts, keep them coming.

That's the point I was making since you didn't get it from a retail store you can never get it replaced at a retail store. Even if for some reason you have a defective phone you either get it replaced thru Amazon or thru the warranty dept over the phone.

I bought my Rezound through Amazon. I saved $70 compared to big Red.

Activated myself using their enclosed instructions. No problems. I was able to keep my unlimited data. I signed up for the full damage coverage. I had that (Asurion) for my Droid, and got 2 replacements overnighted to me through them due to problems after "misadventures".
The phone had Verizon Backup Assistant. I didn't use it, I have everything in Google's cloud.

Ok, understood. Thank you.

What'd you pay for the full damage coverage? I believe we have phone insurance for $5 last time I checked. Thanks for sharing your Amazon experience though, sounds smooth.

Amazon service is top notch. I purchased the ReZound through the .1cent promotion a little while ago. I dropped the phone and cracked the screen the second day I had it. I called Amazon to see if they could do anything about it. I did have full coverage through Asurion. But Amazon offered to simply swap the phone for a brand new phone, no charge. I gladly accepted.

My question is, Verizon has the phone exchange through January the 15th. Will Verizon/Amazon honor the return through January 15th if you ordered through Amazon? Anybody?

Probably not. I read that offers as specific to "phones purchased from Verizon."

I have, however, gotten great service from VZW on phones bought elsewhere. Most recently I wanted to get a 3rd line to get a Rezound for my wife, but I had basically decided against it because while $10/month for an extra voice line is not a big deal, $40/month extra for a 3rd line that I didn't really need wasn't going to work.

So I went into the store asking about the minimum data plan I could get. The VZW lady in the store actually suggested ordering the Rezound for the new line, then bringing it in to them with an old feature phone, and they would switch the new rezound to my wife's old line, and on the new line they'd activate a feature phone with no data charges at all...

Bang! Instead of needing to do an early upgrade to get a $300 Rezound for her, we get the rezound for a penny, an old Boulder I picked up from eBay for $25 on the 3rd line for my son- Even paying $10 line charge for 18 months until the next upgrade, I come out ahead, and my wife's original upgrade early next year remains intact. Never a peep about it being an Amazon purchase to begin with, they just set everything up, including a free replacement SIM card.

Stuff like that is why VZW's customer service wins. At least in the corporate stores... The non-corporates *can* be good, but can be spotty too.

Sorry for not replying sooner, kinda forgot to log in for a while.
My recollection is that the full Asurion is $6.99 a month. Same price I paid per month on my trusty Droid 1 and my wife's iPhone 4. I used them for 2(!) replacements on my Droid. Smooth as silk. Completely separate from Verizon.
The $5 dollar fee is for "Feature Phones". "Smart Phones" bump it to the $6.99.

I have a couple questions. I have unlimited data on my droid x. I was messing around on Amazonwireless and I didnt see an option for unlimited data, will it carry over? Is so, how do i go about this? Another thing... It was asking a question about texts, if i wanna pay per text or what. I have everything umlimited, so pretty much the same question as before. One last thing, is there any contracts with amazon I have to sign that will be different than with Verizon?

Bascially all i wanna know is what will be different than going thru this, rather than VZ.

First off you are always grandfathered into the Unlimited plan if you had it before your new upgrade. I've purchased the last 3 android phones from Amazon, never lost my unlimited plan.

When you get the phone you wont actually be able to activate normally with *228. I had to call, the 800 number to activate it (they have a card with the number) and within 2-3 minutes i was able to confirm with the automated prompting the arrival of my amazon purchase. Wasn't a hassel. yes you can take it in. I took mine in and switched the phone after I activated it to another line. On this note, if you plan to make a switch I'd just take it in and have them activate it on your line. I updated from a family extra line. You can only activate one phone to the 4G sim card, otherwise you have to get a new sim card for a new number. Keep in mind the sim card costs $10 at NON-Corporate stores. Corporate stores do this for free.

The LTE sim card comes in the box seperately from the Box from the Rezound. It's in a little credit card sized sleeve.

I tried buying from amazon, but ran into a few problems. I got to keep my unlimited data plan, but they didnt give me the option to keep my unlimited text for the price I have. The only option they gave me was, none, and pay per text or 1000 messages for $10. Also, Is there a way I can pay with an american express gift card?

No clue on the payment type,I don't use american express. But I do know you can enter credit/atm style cards. Try it in you amazon payment setup.

You will keep you plan if you just do the upgrade path. Just put nothing, no change.I didn't pick a plan.if your worried just call the amazon wireless support they at helpful.
