Help Configuring D800 for T-mobile

Willkst

Lurker
I am using the ATT D800 on T-mobile's network without any data at the moment. Everything seems fine except the GPS cannot determine my location and my cellular reception is not very stable. The phone switches between UMTS and LTE every couple of minutes and it's shortening my battery life. I have much better reception on UMTS than on LTE, but I can't figure out how to prevent my phone from connecting to LTE. T-mobile said they can't help since it's not their model. Anyone have any idea? I have tried going into the secret dial menu interface to change the network, but apparently ATT does not allow you to change that.

Welcome to the forums! :)

Sorry for the trouble. :(

AT&T is famous for taking away the 4G control on every brand of phone I've checked.

I have no idea why, but it's seriously ridiculous.

As you've discovered, you can't even change it under the hood.

I have no idea if you can run an international or T-Mobile rom on that model, but if you're open to the idea, ask about it in our All Things Root subforum, at the top or bottom of the thread list here, depending on your forum preferences.

Best luck, hope this helps.

Thank you! I appreciate the warm welcome. I will gladly check the root forums, although I never tried rooting before, so I am a little nervous. At the moment, my phone is staying on the UMTS network and has not switched to LTE yet, but I have a feeling it will start switching again tomorrow. :(

PS - just in case your phone is different -

Check out "Network"

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mangelow.network

Proceed with extreme caution, change nothing without writing down the original settings - that's powerful enough to turn your phone into a paperweight if abused.

Hasn't worked for AT&T Samsungs or HTCs but you never know.

Here's the drop-down you care about on the Network app on my Sprint phone (shown only so you know where the drop-down is).

Try for *exactly* what you have, minus LTE - IF it's even possible.

Write down the original settings.

Change nothing else!

Root not required - but proceed with insane caution!

That looks just like the app LTE OnOff. And no, you will not remember your original setting unless you write it down. On paper. Paper you can find again.

If you want to change data to only 64 mb data, change the data APN information in settings in tethering and networks, go to "new APN".
1) Name: T-Mobile
2) APN: epc.tmobile.com (64 mb data; fast.t-mobile.com is LTE apn)
(Nothing needed for: proxy, port, username, password, and server. skip to)
3) MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
(skip MMS proxy and port, go to)
4) MMS protocol: WAP 2.0
5) MCC: 310
6) MNC: 260
(skip authentication type, and APN type)
7) APN protocol: IPv4/IPv6
8) APN roaming protocol: IPv4
(skip "Turn APN on/off")
9) Bearer: Unspecified
10) Press menu key, and touch save.

There it is, in ten steps. Let me know if this works for you.
#2 is the key step. In your case, you want it to be epc.tmobile.com for 64 mb data.
