Help confused about google people

i just got an lg volt...it has lg's native contacts app.

i've always used "people", yet it was not pre-loaded on the phone. so i headed to the play store.

not there. so i check for google contacts, thinking maybe they changed the name. nothing.

so what's up? i then put just plain old google in the search box, and it lists all google apps. nothing.

what am i missing?

follow up question: will the native app sync to my gmail "people"? i want to ensure that i can update/edit contacts and that they'll be saved across the board.

The Google "Contacts" app is integral to the OS, and (iirc) can only be installed as part of the core GApps.

The LG app, like Sony's Contacts and HTC's People, is simply a customised version of this. If the entries are saved as Google contacts and sync is enabled then the functionality is identical.

thanks slug. i thought they were stand alone apps like all the others google spun off from the base rom that you could get at the playstore
