Confusing Linux-Rom

Rooting should be adequate, with no need to install a different ROM. There is a "Linux Installer" app in Google Play. I am trying it on my rooted Nook HD+

Yeah but it said I need a loop function on my ROM and the terminal stopped there because I don't have one (on the standard rooted s3 mini)

I had trouble with that software also because my setup is bizarre ... the jelly bean operating system is on my SD card rather than internal memory, and that made the installer unhappy.

But I have successfully installed Ubuntu using Complete Linux Installer. I still haven't figured out how to use the GUI via VNC (I have tried several VNC apps), but the command line interface works fine. I have managed to a number of Perl modules that I use, along with some other Linux-based TTS software (e.g., Festival) which I use in one of my hobbyist projects.

After I resolve the gui issues, I would like to try installing Eclipse and the Android SDK in this environment. I think it would be too cumbersome for a primary development platform, but could be nice for making small tweaks to existing software.

If you are having some trouble installing linux on android phone I would recommend you follow the video here on youtube
