confusion about 3g hotspot

Ok, so i have a Motorola Defy through T-Mobile and cannot figure out where the hotspot is. I don't have internet at my place right now because i can't afford it, but would be nice to be able to use a computer instead of my phone. How can i use my phone to connect my laptop to the internet? So confused! Any help is appreciated

Is it a Defy, a Defy Mini, or Defy+?

Try menu>settings>wireless and network>tether>mobile AP

It's just a regular Defy

I tried doing that but after wireless and networks there is no tether or mobile app option
